NJ Laborers Union Throws Support Behind Saudino
EMERSON, NJ- The New Jersey Laborers Union has announced their endorsement of Michael Saudino for Bergen County Sheriff. The New Jersey Laborers Union is affiliated with the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), and represents more than 20,000 members statewide including almost 9,000 in North Jersey.
“We feel Michael Saudino brings credibility and integrity at a time when our institutions of government are distrusted by many New Jerseyans,” said Raymond M. Pocino, vice president and eastern regional manager of the Laborers’ International Union of North America.”

“I could not be more honored to have the support of the NJ Laborers Union,” said Saudino upon receiving their endorsement. “The hard working men and women in the Laborers Union understand what it means to get the job done and they know the current Sheriff has run a clumsy operation at the taxpayers’ expense. Bergen County deserves to have a Sheriff’s department that performs its assigned duties while always looking out for taxpayers in a responsible way.”

“We think it says something about Michael Saudino when both the Bergen County PBA Conference and the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association endorse the same candidate,” said Pocino. “Michael Saudino earned their respect and he has earned ours as well. From top to bottom, Michael Saudino is the better candidate.”

Members of the union represent various industries including construction, clean energy, environmental remediation, sanitation and recycling, security and education. Saudino has also received endorsements from the Bergen County PBA Conference and the Bergen County Police Chiefs association.

Bergen County Police Chiefs Endorse Donovan and Saudino

 The Bergen County Chiefs Association has announced they will endorse County Executive candidate Kathleen Donovan and Sheriff candidate Michael Saudino in the upcoming election. Upon the endorsement the candidates released the following statements:

 ”I thank the Chiefs for their endorsement and look forward to working with them,” said Donovan.  “This means making certain that they have full access to the County’s resources and that there is total cooperation and coordination and a seamless working relationship.  The security and safety of Bergen residents is our top priority and the chiefs of police are our first line of defense.”

“It truly means a lot to me to have the support of my fellow chiefs,” said Saudino upon receiving the endorsement. “What the police chiefs in Bergen County need from the Sheriff is a return to the core functions of the position. They need support from the Sheriff, not sloppy and costly duplications of services. It’s about doing what’s right for every chief, every police officer and every taxpayer in Bergen County. It’s time to get back to work.”

 Combined with the Bergen County PBA’s endorsement in August, Saudino has the backing of all law enforcement in Bergen County. Saudino has been the Chief of Police in Emerson for nine years.

Court orders Bergen Sheriff McGuire to remove illegal online post

HACKENSACK, NJ- On Friday, a Bergen County Judge on the record entered a consent order, requiring Sheriff McGuire to remove a message he posted on a link to the taxpayer paid for Bergen County Sheriff’s official webpage to support his reelection campaign.

In essence, McGuire was using taxpayer resources in his official capacity to help pay for his reelection. Campaign law explicitly prohibits public entities from making political contributions and for candidates to receive them.

“The taxpayers deserve better than what he’s doing,” said Bergen County Sheriff candidate Michael Saudino. “McGuire doesn’t understand his personal and political life is not to be paid for by the taxpayers.”

In these difficult economic times, this is McGuire’s latest trend of wasting the taxpayer’s money. He has recently admitted to hiring his own personal photographer and driver with Bergen County money but this time he crossed a legal line. The Sheriff’s budget has gone up $12 million since 2005 in what is already one of the highest taxed counties in the entire country. The brief issued to the court explains this abuse.

“The bottom line here is we have a high profile public official wasting taxpayer’s money by using public resources for his own personal gain,” stated the brief issued to the court, “which is consistent with his attitude about public money as demonstrated by hiring a personal photographer and driver at the tax payers’ expense and is inconsistent with his duties to the public. This type of defendant requires judicial intervention.”

Despite requests to remove the link from the public, the post remained where it was until judicial intervention. “Complete disregard to the taxpayer and to the laws of New Jersey, where does it end?” said Saudino.

Saudino: Bergen Taxpayers Deserve Budget Sanity

Bergen County Sheriff nominee Chief Mike Saudino issued the following statement today about Leo McGuire’s out of control spending and the burden it has put on Bergen County taxpayers:

“Bergen County has had enough. Every day residents here, like many across the state, are making tough decisions to stretch every dollar. Meanwhile, elected officials like Leo McGuire take more and more taxpayer money to promote themselves and their agenda with total disregard for the taxpayer.

“Since 2004 the Bergen County Sheriff’s office budget has gone up almost $12 million. He managed to do this by hiring 25 new employees in his first year alone and insists on having a driver and a photographer- not what I would call necessary law enforcement personnel. At a time where Bergen County is the fifth highest taxed county in the entire United States and almost $70 billion of wealth has been forced to flee the state because of high taxes, Leo McGuire has chosen to stand by while taxpayers suffer.

“Bergen County deserves better. Under my watch as Chief of the Emerson Police Department, Emerson’s operating budget has been brought back down to 2004 levels and I am proud to say our town has never been safer. This takes hard work and an ability to make tough decisions and Bergen County deserves a Sheriff who is willing to do just that. Fiscal responsibility needs to make a comeback in Bergen County and it is time to get back to work.”
